Founding Partners
Angus Dobbie
Angus is a senior finance executive with 17 years professional experience working in international securities operations. He has worked across Asia, the US and Latin America and has extensive academic training and direct industry experience. He is an experienced and professional communicator with an ability to work with individuals of all levels of seniority, personality types and functional roles, enabling Discovery to work both across industries and within the bureaucracy of individual organizations.
Angus’ background is in sales and management, with specific experience building new securities businesses. These businesses have typically focused on Institutional Derivative and Equity markets. Whilst Angus has worked at senior levels within large Financial Institutions, equally as valuable is his track record in small business, having been a founding partner in a highly successful Australian broker / dealer. This typifies Angus’s own entrepreneurial abilities and will give clients access to his first hand experience in project management and revenue generating ideas.
His most recent position was as a Senior Managing Director of an Australian based banking group - Macquarie. Angus headed the Equity Derivatives and Structured Products division within the US operations. These businesses were active in the securities market of Asia, the US and Latin America. Angus was on the Board of the bank’s US subsidiary, and in addition served on the Finance, Compliance and 401k Advisory Board committees.
Angus moved to the US from Australia in 2005 to build out the global reach of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s equities business. He was CEO of the broker/dealer and on the Board of the bank’s US subsidiary. Angus worked at Commonwealth following its purchase of the business (AOT) he and 2 partners founded in Australia and successfully grew over 5 years. That part of his career gave him not only enormous personal satisfaction, but also an appreciation for the challenges and dynamics unique to small business environments.
Angus has pursued education well beyond his undergraduate degree in Economics. He has attained post-graduate Masters degrees from Australian universities in Banking & Finance and International Relations. The political science degree reflects his keen interest in politics and foreign policy matters generally. He also holds Series 7, 24, 4, 55 and 63 US securities licenses with FINRA.
